Kevin McCann is a 2010 Graduate of the European EAVE Producer Programme. He is a writer and filmmaker born in Northern Ireland and raised in the south of Ireland. Since graduating university, he has made drama and documentary for television and radio including RTE, BBC and TG4. After working in production for Roger Corman Film Studios, his half-hour border drama called “Testing Time, Teddy Boy’ won critical acclaim at film festivals and multiple television screenings.
In 2009, he produced the documentary film for BBC and RTE, which was directed by Tom Collins. ‘The Boys of St.Columbs’ followed the lives of several great Irish figures, including Nobel Laureates Seamus Heaney and John Hume, who have helped transform modern Ireland and who all attended the same small school in Derry in the 1950s.
In 2013, he produced a half-hour drama based on an Irish border play written by his father. Directed by Brian Deane, ‘Volkswagen Joe’ stars Stuart Graham (Hunger) in the central role. It has been screened in numerous international film festivals and to date has won awards at Boston, Chicago, and Rome.
Among his latest work, is a non-fiction film based in Mexico funded by the Irish Film Board/Arts Council of Ireland and a radio drama series for RTE.
Based in Belfast, Kevin is developing a number of drama and documentary projects including a major motion picture on the Easter Rising revolution of 1916 supported by Northern Ireland Screen. ‘The Rising’ has secured development finance from institutes and investors in the US.
