Her first short film Gort an gCnamh (Field of Bones) won four awards in 1998 including Best First Time Director at the Celtic Film Festival and Foyle Film Festival.

Carol received a NESTA fellowship in 2005 for two and half years to enable her to explore and develop her ideas surrounding cultural diversity in Northern Ireland through her practice of theatre and film making. This work included two shorts entitled Are you seeing me? and This Belfast Thing. Carol’s 50 minute documentary entitled The Farther, The Dearer about a migrant worker from Latvia has just been screened at the Belfast Film Festival and the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Montana and soon to be screened at the San Joaquin Film Festival in California. In February Carol’s short film History Unfinished was the Northern Ireland regional winner of the BAFTA 60 SEC 2008 film competition. Carol has just completed a 35 minute documentary about a collective of musicians from Northern Ireland and across the globe for Beyond Skin called Journey of Equals.
