Award winning Production Designers Tom Conroy (‘The Tudors’, ‘George Gently’) and Ana Rackard (‘Ondine’) presented a case history of the design process of one of their projects. They also talked about the design of a favourite international film that has inspired them. In the ensuing discussion Directors had the chance to ask questions related to their own work regarding production design.

Why would anyone choose to shoot a $20 million dollar action movie on small prosumer HDV cameras? TV Director Daniel O’Hara and DOP Fergal O'Hanlon led a discussion on shooting formats with a special focus on getting the most out of low-budget digital filmmaking.
On Monday 18th January, SDGI's Chairman Ciaran Donnelley presented an episode of the award winning TV Series 'The Tudors' as part of the Director's Club.
Ciaran discussed his vision behind 'The Tudors' and the challenges of working with actors and crew on set of a large scale TV drama series. The after-screening discussion was facilitated by fellow Director Ruth Meehan, who did a thorough examination of the screened episode.
Afterwards, all the members got together at Pinxto Bar for drinks.

Ruth Meehan presented an evening on What makes a moment come to life on screen?
Lenny Abrahamson, Declan Recks and Paddy Breathnachdiscussed what was involved in bringing a chosen scene to life what worked for them and equally important what didn't work. The main focus was on performance but other elements such as camera, sound and location were also be considered.
