7th Annual Directors Finders Series 2011

The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland is delighted to announce the seventh annual Directors Finders Series run in association with the Directors Guild of America.

This event presents Irish feature directors a unique opportunity to screen their film in the prestigious DGA Theatre, Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles to key distributors & film industry representatives in an effort to gain a US distribution deal.

This opportunity also affords the winning director a unique networking experience during their time in LA in order to enhance & develop their international directorial career.

Criteria
The film must be shot in Ireland and directors must be members of SDGI (new membership is available to directors working in Ireland, subject to certain criteria). The film can be fiction or documentary and must be feature length. The feature must not have US distribution. There is no timeline stipulation and the decision will be made by an international panel of industry experts including a representative from UK distribution house, Pathe! UK.

Entry Deadline is Friday 1st July 2011.

Winner of the Directors Finders Series 2010

The winning Director of the 2010 Directors Finders Series was Ian Power with his film 'The Runway'.

The film was launched at a Presentation Ceremony run in conjunction with the Guild's tenth anniversary celebrations & attended by internationally renowned directors, Michael Apted & Sir Alan Parker.
The Runway’ also premiered at The Galway Film Fleadh in 2010 and picked up the award for Best Irish Feature.

Ian travelled to Los Angeles at the end of September and met with distributors, studios and agents. This culminated in the screening of the film in the DGA Theatre on Sunset Boulevard to an invited audience of major U.S film agents, distributors, press and industry professionals on Friday 1st October. This was followed by a Q&A session chaired by internationally acclaimed director, Jim Sheridan. Ian remains in communication with a number of distributors regarding the feature following the screening and is in discussion with other industry representatives regarding forthcoming projects.

5th Annual Directors Finders Series 2009

The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland, in association with the Directors Guild of America (DGA), is delighted to announce the 5th Annual Directors Finders Series 2009.

The Directors Finders Series Award presents an Irish director with an opportunity to showcase their film in the state of the art Director’s Guild of America Theatre, Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles to an audience of American Distributors and industry professionals with a view to securing a U.S.A distribution deal. The Directors Finders Series spotlights works of fiction, documentary or drama feature submissions from Irish Directors who have not secured U.S distribution for their films.

An international panel of experts, including a representative from Pathe U.K will select the winning Director and film who will then travel to Los Angeles where an official screening will take place on Friday 7th August 2009 in the DGA Theatre.

SDGI will launch the winning film on Thursday 16th July in Dublin in The Morrison Hotel at a special awards ceremony hosted by internationally acclaimed Directors Neil Jordan & Jim Sheridan.

Overall, last years series was outstandingly successful, with overwhelming industry attendances at both the Dublin & Los Angeles events. The Screen Directors Guild of Ireland is proud to present the 2009 Directors Finders Series.

The submission deadline for applications - 27th April 2009.

4th Annual Directors Finders Series 2008

The winning Director of the 2008 Directors Finders Series was Tomm Moore (Cartoon Saloon) with his film 'The Secret of Kells'.

Tomm travelled to Los Angeles and met with distributors, studios and agents. This culminated in the screening of the film to an invited audience of major U.S film agents, distributors, press and industry professionals, followed by a Q&A session chaired by international Director, Paul Quinn.

Tomm is in communication with a number of distributors regarding the feature length animated film ‘The Secret of Kells’ and was invited back to the USA in 2009 to screen the film at the Pixar Studios. Tomm has also gone on to win the Director of the Year at Cartoon Movie, as well as ‘The Secret of Kells’ being named Best Irish Film at the Jameson International Film Festival & opened in Irish cinemas in 2009 to great critical acclaim.
