SDGI PROJECTS

Directors Finders Series

The Directors ‘Finders Series’ Award presents an Irish Director with an opportunity to screen their film in the state-of-the-art Directors Guild of America (DGA) Theatre in Los Angeles in order to secure U.S distribution. The Irish Premiere in the USA involves over 350 high profile film & television industry members, including actors, directors, producers, agents, distributors, press representatives from television and radio. The Directors ‘Finders Series’ is internationally acknowledged as being an incredibly important date on the annual Irish film industry calendar.

Screen Directors Collecting Society of Ireland (SDCSI)

SDGI established a Collecting Society in 2005 to ensure payments are made to Directors for secondary (television and cable transmission) use of their work outside of the Republic of Ireland. The SDGI is in the process of negotiating a national agreement with Irish broadcasters on behalf of its members.

Director ‘Minimum Terms’ Contract

In November 2008 the SDGI launched a ‘Standard Contract’ for Directors, which is a key instrument in professionalising the industry and protecting Directors creative rights as artists and owners of their work.

Tax Exemption

The SDGI is continuing to seek clarification of the Artists Exemption Scheme in relation to audiovisual works of creative or cultural merit. The SDGI produced a report to the Department of Finance on behalf of members in 2008 and will continue to campaign to secure exemption status.
